This may seem like a futile exercise in semantics, but it’s actually a crucial question which will inform how we perceive virtual worlds as they become ever more complex and integrated into our everyday lives. Do events in the virtual world matter? Are our virtual selves fake or extensions of the true self? And how accurate is our interpretation of the real world anyway?
